Gochang County Accepting Nominations for 1st Gochang County Youth Award

Gochang County in North Jeolla Province has established the "1st Gochang County Youth Award" to discover and honor young individuals who have made significant contributions to the local community in celebration of "Youth Day" this coming September. The county is now accepting nominations for award candidates.

According to the county on July 29, the Youth Award was established in accordance with the "Gochang County Youth Basic Ordinance." It targets individuals aged 18 to 45 who reside in the county and have provided practical assistance to the local community.

The award will be presented in four categories: ▲volunteering ▲young entrepreneurship ▲culture and arts ▲youth activities. One recipient will be selected in each category, for a total of four awardees. The Youth Award serves as an official recognition of young people’s active participation and contributions to society, while also strengthening the practical foundation of youth policy in the region.

Nominations will be accepted until August 14 through various channels, including the heads of Gochang County’s offices and departments, town and township mayors, county council members, heads of local organizations and social groups, heads of youth organizations, or a joint recommendation signed by at least 10 local residents. Applications must be submitted in person to the county’s New Vitality Economic Policy Office or to the relevant town or township office.

The selection committee, composed of external experts and internal members, will fairly evaluate the appropriateness of achievements, contributions to the community, sustainability of activities, and completeness of documentation during August.

Winners will receive an official certificate and plaque in the name of the Gochang County Governor. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Youth Day commemorative event on September 20.

County Governor Sim Deokseop stated, "The Gochang Youth Award is a meaningful initiative to discover and support young people who quietly brighten the community in their respective fields." He added, "It will play a significant role in fostering an environment where youth become the main actors in the region and in laying the foundation for a youth-friendly city."
