Gwangju City's groundbreaking administrative innovation is drawing attention. The 'AI Dangjigi' system, first introduced among metropolitan and special cities in August last year, is bringing a new wave to the public sector.

According to Gwangju City on July 28, the city specially recruited the 'AI Dangjigi'?an artificial intelligence (AI)-based duty civil complaint response system?in August last year, exactly one year ago. This system was implemented a year ahead of President Lee Jaemyung's recent directive to overhaul the duty system, and has already proven to be highly effective.

The bold departure from the previously inefficient duty work method goes beyond simple institutional improvement and is transforming the paradigm of administrative services. By utilizing AI technology, the city has improved the quality of night and holiday civil complaint responses while simultaneously reducing the workload on public officials. This is the core of the innovation.

Over the past 11 months of operation, AI Dangjigi has successfully handled 18,540 cases, or 86%, out of a total of 21,648 civil complaint calls. In particular, it has quickly and accurately resolved a wide range of issues, from public transportation complaints to simple general inquiries, and has facilitated immediate and smooth connections to relevant departments.

This innovative approach is also aligned with the president's direction for innovation in the public sector. As President Lee Jaemyung recently ordered a complete overhaul of the inefficient duty system, Gwangju City's 'AI Dangjigi' is rapidly emerging as a model case.

Gwangju City's innovative administration is a leading example of successfully integrating AI technology into public administration and is expected to serve as an important milestone for other local governments in the future.

Mayor Kang Gijung emphasized, "In August last year, Gwangju City became the first among metropolitan and special cities to abolish the duty system in order to reduce staff fatigue from duty work and address work gaps caused by duty leave. Through active and continuous communication with staff, we developed the improvement measure of 'AI Dangjigi,' making this an innovative case in the AI era. Going forward, we will expand the use of AI technology throughout administration to provide efficient and smart citizen-centered administrative services."
