Gimhae City Relaunches Bicycle Registration System to Prevent Theft ... Gimhae Love Gift Certificates for Early Registrants

Gimhae City in South Gyeongsang Province is relaunching its bicycle registration system to prevent bicycle theft among its citizens.

On July 28, the city announced that it will resume the implementation of the bicycle registration system by amending the 'Gimhae City Bicycle Use Promotion Ordinance'.

The bicycle registration system was first implemented in 2008, but was temporarily suspended in the second half of 2023 due to low registration rates. Last year, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission recommended revitalizing the system.

This system is designed to prevent the loss and theft of bicycles and to enable a swift response in the event of a loss or theft. It also allows for the efficient management of abandoned bicycles.

Any Gimhae citizen who owns a bicycle can participate in the registration process.

Through the Gimhae City website, citizens can: ▲ verify their identity and enter their bicycle registration number ▲ receive a registration certificate and registration number sticker by mail ▲ attach the sticker to their bicycle, take a photo, and complete the certification process in order.

Gimhae City plans to provide a Gimhae Love Gift Certificate worth 10,000 won to citizens who complete the photo certification, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Jung Unho, head of the Transportation Innovation Division, said, "When a bicycle is stolen, owners usually only remember the brand or color, making it difficult to recover. As reports of bicycle theft have been steadily increasing recently, we expect the registration system to help protect citizens' property and prevent crime."
