Kim Dongkyu, a member of the Economic and Welfare Committee of the Daegu Dong-gu Council, received a plaque of appreciation from the Daegu Dongbu Police Station on July 28 for his contributions to improving the rights of people with disabilities. He was recognized for enacting an ordinance aimed at preventing crimes against people with disabilities and protecting victims.
Kim introduced the "Ordinance on the Prevention of Crimes Against People with Disabilities and Protection of Victims in Daegu Dong-gu" as the lead sponsor. The ordinance aims to prevent crimes within welfare facilities for people with disabilities, protect individuals with disabilities from various crimes, and strengthen practical support for victims.
In particular, Kim placed emphasis on establishing a practical crime prevention system free of blind spots by conducting joint inspections with relevant agencies to thoroughly assess the operation of welfare facilities.
The newly enacted ordinance includes measures such as developing strategies to prevent crimes against people with disabilities, conducting regular inspections and management of welfare facilities, providing crime prevention education and public awareness campaigns, and implementing protection and support measures for victims.
Kim Dongkyu of the Daegu Dong-gu Council stated, "I hope this will help prevent crimes against people with disabilities, who may be relatively vulnerable, and provide a foundation for prompt protection in the event of victimization." He added, "I will continue to carry out responsible, field-oriented legislative activities to resolve welfare blind spots that people with disabilities may face."
