On July 28, Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine announced that it is the only East Asian medical institution to have received reaccreditation as a continuing medical education provider from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) in the United States.

ACCME is a nonprofit organization that certifies, manages, and supervises continuing medical education (CME) programs for physicians in the United States. It was jointly established by seven major medical associations in the U.S., including the American Medical Association (AMA), the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and the American Hospital Association (AHA). ACCME also plays a key role in ensuring the reliability of systems that provide essential CME credits for physician license renewal in 31 countries worldwide, including the United States. As a result, physicians in these countries must complete a certain period of continuing education and earn the required credits from ACCME-accredited institutions in order to maintain their licenses.

Previously, in July 2019, Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine obtained a two-year provisional accreditation as a new CME provider from ACCME and has since offered continuing education programs to medical professionals both domestically and internationally. At the same time, the hospital strengthened its infrastructure by building a credit issuance database and platform.

After the two-year provisional period ended in 2021, Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine received full accreditation from ACCME, officially qualifying as a continuing education provider. ACCME determines whether to grant full accreditation based on 13 core criteria, including the use of evidence-based education, effectiveness of the programs, the potential to enhance physician competencies, and the selection of topics relevant to clinical practice. Currently, approximately 1,900 medical professionals are enrolled in Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine’s CME programs.

This month, with the successful completion of its four-year full accreditation period, the hospital has been reaccredited by ACCME and will continue as a CME provider until July 2029. In Asia, only medical institutions in Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and the UAE, in addition to Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine, are registered as ACCME-accredited providers. Globally, only 21 institutions in 15 countries, including the United States, hold full ACCME accreditation.

It is also seen as a testament to the high level of expertise in integrative medicine at Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine. Designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as a specialized hospital for spinal disorders in Korean medicine, Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine provides unique treatments such as Motion Style Acupuncture Treatment (MSAT), Chuna therapy, and ultrasound-guided pharmacopuncture. Last year, the hospital was selected as an implementing institution for a national project by the National Institute for Korean Medicine Development under the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and 98 medical professionals from 28 countries received CME and clinical training at Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine.

Jin Ho Lee, Director of Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine, stated, "For many years, we have provided evidence-based clinical education to globalize, modernize, and standardize Korean medicine, and our integrative Korean medicine education system is now recognized as meeting global standards. We will continue to offer the latest Korean medicine treatment techniques to medical professionals worldwide and strive for the globalization of Korean medicine."

Meanwhile, Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine has launched the international academic journal "Perspectives in Integrative Medicine (PIM)" and has been hosting the AJA International Academic Conference for medical professionals worldwide. In August next year, the 6th AJA International Academic Conference will be co-hosted in the United States with the Indiana University School of Medicine.
