Doosan Robotics Accelerates Entry into the Global AI Robot Market
Acquisition of ONExia to Strengthen Competitiveness in Intelligent Robot Solutions
Doosan Robotics has initiated the acquisition of a US automation solutions company to strengthen its global competitiveness in intelligent robot solutions.
On July 28, Doosan Robotics announced that its board of directors had resolved to acquire an 89.59% stake in ONExia, a Pennsylvania-based company specializing in robotic systems integration. The acquisition amount is approximately 35.6 billion KRW, and Doosan Robotics plans to secure management rights by participating in a paid-in capital increase.
Founded in 1984, ONExia designs, manufactures, and supplies automation systems for a variety of industries, including manufacturing, logistics, and packaging. Recently, the company has developed its own collaborative robot solutions specialized for end-of-line (EOL) palletizing and box assembly and packaging processes, which are in high demand in North America, achieving an average annual sales growth of over 30%.
Through this acquisition, Doosan Robotics plans to accelerate its entry into the intelligent robot market based on AI and software, moving beyond its existing hardware-centered structure. ONExia's automation technology, along with its data and supply experience accumulated over 25 years, is expected to directly contribute to Doosan Robotics' AI capabilities and the development of new solutions.
In addition, Doosan Robotics is reorganizing its research and development (R&D) organization to focus on AI, software, and humanoid technologies, and is in the final stages of recruiting related specialists. The company also plans to complete the construction of its R&D Innovation Center within the third quarter of this year.
Kim Minpyo, CEO of Doosan Robotics, stated, "This acquisition marks a significant milestone in securing leadership in robot solutions in the United States and in the internalization of AI," adding, "We will advance as an intelligent robot solutions company leading the era of physical AI."
