According to the police investigation, Ms. A drank two bottles of soju alone at a karaoke bar in Daegu until early that morning. She then rested at home for about half a day before deciding to drive to Taejongdae in Yeongdo-gu, Busan, where an acquaintance was located, around noon. While still experiencing a hangover, Ms. A started a live broadcast, mentioned her drinking, and drove more than 90 kilometers on highways such as the Namhae Expressway.

The police began tracking Ms. A’s vehicle after receiving a report of drunk driving from a viewer who was watching the broadcast. At the same time, an operator at the 112 command center joined the broadcast channel and shared Ms. A’s real-time route with patrol cars. The police located Ms. A’s vehicle at the Daejeo Interchange on the Namhae Expressway and guided her to stop near Moradong, Sasang-gu, at the Morago Overpass. Her blood alcohol concentration at the time was confirmed to be at the license suspension level.

An official from the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency explained, "Ms. A did not state her motive for the live broadcast while intoxicated, but it appears to be due to the number of viewers."
