Pyeongtaek City Seeks 'Honorary Citizens' Who Contributed to City Development

Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province announced on July 28 that it will publicly recruit candidates for the "2025 Pyeongtaek City Honorary Citizen" award, which recognizes individuals who have contributed to the city's development, until August 18 of next month.

The Honorary Citizen Certificate is awarded to foreigners, overseas Koreans, and residents of other regions who serve as role models for citizens and have made significant contributions to the city's administration. Since 2003, the city has selected a total of 119 honorary citizens up to last year.

Any citizen may participate in the nomination process. Nominees must meet one of the following criteria: individuals who have cooperated in international exchanges or the promotion of city policies abroad; those who have contributed to the city's development in fields such as culture, arts, sports, science, technology, or the economy; those who have actively participated in regional development or social service activities, thereby contributing to citizen unity; or individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the city's administration or whose involvement is deemed necessary for the advancement of city policies.

Nomination forms must be submitted with the joint signatures of at least 30 citizens. The relevant forms can be downloaded from the "Notices and Announcements" section of the Pyeongtaek City Hall website. The city will select the recipients through a review by the "Honorary Citizen Certificate Award Deliberation Committee" from among the submitted nominees. The Honorary Citizen Certificates are scheduled to be awarded at the "30th Anniversary of Pyeongtaek City Integration Time Capsule Unveiling Ceremony" to be held on September 26.
