An occupational safety and health physician accompanied the inspection to directly verify on site whether practical safety measures were being properly implemented.
The inspection focused on major construction sites and departments with frequent outdoor duties within the city. The city thoroughly examined whether protective measures for field workers vulnerable to heatwaves were being properly enforced. In addition, for any shortcomings identified, immediate corrective and supplementary actions were requested.
Key inspection items included: the presence and recording of thermometers and hygrometers in workplaces; the installation status of cooling devices; the guarantee of rest periods and flexible adjustment of working hours; the provision of sufficient drinking water and salt; and completion of heatwave response education.
Mayor Park Hyungdeok of Dongducheon stated, "This inspection is not a mere formality, but a practical measure to create an environment where workers can work with peace of mind even during a heatwave." He emphasized, "We will continue to prioritize the safety and health of citizens and workers, and pursue administration that can be felt directly at the field level."
