The "Welfare Community Center" in Wolpi-dong, Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, will be completed at the end of July 2025.
The Ansan Wolpi Urban Regeneration Project, which was selected as a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport public contest project in 2018, is promoting a variety of initiatives, including the establishment of the Gwangdeok Community Center, the construction of a crime prevention system and improvement of street environments, support for home repair projects, the creation of a startup incubation center, and the enhancement of children's park environments.
Wolpi-dong is a geographically isolated area surrounded by Gwangdeoksan Mountain and Ansancheon Stream. Its isolation was exacerbated in the 1990s due to the development of new urban districts in Ansan. As a result, its competitiveness as a residential area has weakened rapidly, leading to a swift decline. There is a pressing need to revitalize the area by expanding basic living infrastructure and providing welfare services.
The Welfare Community Center, which is being completed this time, is located at 516-10 Wolpi-dong, Sangnok-gu, Ansan, and will consist of one basement floor and four above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 1,792 square meters. This center will be used for a variety of welfare programs and as a community activity space for residents, including a Lifelong Education Center for People with Developmental Disabilities, a Community Childcare Center, a Housing Welfare Center, and a Sky Garden.
Kim Tae-su, Director of Urban Regeneration at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "The core goal of the urban regeneration project is to revitalize the old downtown area and improve the quality of life for residents. I am confident that the Welfare Community Center will provide enhanced welfare services to the community and significantly improve the quality of life for local residents."
