Practical Training to Prevent Summer Water Accidents
and Strengthen Rapid On-Site Response Capabilities
Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province conducted the '2025 Beach Lifeguard Training and Joint Drill' on July 25, starting at 2:00 PM, in order to proactively respond to various water-related accidents that may occur during the summer beach operation period and to strengthen the rescue capabilities of lifeguards.
This training consisted of a theoretical session held in the meeting room on the second floor of Byeonggok-myeon Office, followed by a practical, field-oriented joint drill at Goraebul Beach. Approximately 30 lifeguards assigned to beaches within Yeongdeok County participated in the event.
The training and drill were organized by the Safety Management Division and Rescue Team A of the Uljin Maritime Police Station. The program emphasized enhancing the practical response abilities of lifeguards through professional lectures based on extensive field experience and scenario-based training simulating real-life situations.
The theoretical training covered topics such as the roles and responsibilities of lifeguards, major types of accidents and their prevention at beaches, as well as the usage and inspection of rescue equipment. The on-site drill focused on rescue operation training and hands-on practice of CPR and first aid, based on scenarios involving the rescue of drowning victims at sea.
In particular, the program went beyond simple theory delivery by expanding the proportion of practical exercises, enabling participants to acquire rescue techniques and response skills that can be immediately applied in the field. This approach received a positive response from attendees. Additionally, the event served as an opportunity to strengthen the collaborative response system between the maritime police and lifeguards by checking their cooperation protocols for emergency situations.
Moon Sungjun, Deputy Governor of Yeongdeok County, stated, "With the increase in vacationers visiting our beaches during the summer holiday season, it is more important than ever to establish a system for preventing water accidents and ensuring rapid rescue responses. We will do our utmost to enhance the on-site response capabilities of our lifeguards and strengthen our cooperation with relevant agencies, so that everyone can enjoy the beaches safely and with peace of mind."
This year, Yeongdeok County has assigned 63 lifeguards to seven beaches in the region and is continuously carrying out water safety activities throughout the beach opening period. The county is also making every effort to prevent water accidents through frequent inspections and ongoing training.
