Gyeryong City in South Chungcheong Province has been drawing attention for its comprehensive achievements over the past three years since the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration, including population growth, economic revitalization, and improvements in residential and childbirth environments.
According to the city on July 28, key indicators showed significant growth from July 2022 to May of this year, proving the city's transformation into a "young and vibrant city."
The most notable change has been the increase in population.
The resident registration population, which stood at 43,510 in July 2022, recently reached 46,119, marking an increase of about 6%. During the same period, the number of households also rose by 12% to 19,527.
The number of marriages increased by 45% to 191 cases, and the total fertility rate rose by 7% to 0.95.
The city analyzes that efforts such as housing support and improvements to the childcare environment have proven effective.
The upward trend is also evident in economic indicators.
Gyeryong City's total budget for 2025 increased by 11% to 271.4 billion won. The number of local businesses grew by 9% to 3,607, and the number of employees increased by 4% to 11,930.
In particular, the economically active population surged by 24%, surpassing 21,000, signaling a strengthening of the local employment base and a recovery in the local economy.
The city plans to further strengthen support for newlyweds and families with multiple children, improve the quality of childcare facilities, and create a work-life balance environment for workers.
In addition, the city will accelerate the implementation of tailored policies to boost the local economy, such as supporting small business startups and launching youth-centered volunteer-based programs.
The city aims to expand communication with citizens and increase opportunities for community participation under the vision of a "sustainable city" and "Gyeryong growing together with its citizens."
Mayor Lee Ungu stated, "These results are the outcome of our hard work under the slogan 'Yes! Gyeryong, overflowing with happiness,'" and added, "We will continue to strive so that these achievements are felt by citizens in a tangible way."
