Dongmyung University Designated as New Immigrant Early Adaptation Support Center, Emerging as Key Hub for Local Settlement Support

Dongmyung University has been newly designated as an 'Immigrant Early Adaptation Support Center' following its previous selection as an operator of the Ministry of Justice's 'Social Integration Program.'

The university's specialized educational capabilities, such as degree programs for training multicultural society experts, have been officially recognized, positioning it as a key hub for supporting the successful local settlement of immigrants and international students.

Dongmyung University has established the Department of Korean Language Education and Multicultural Studies (headed by Kim Sangsoo) for adult learners and is the only comprehensive university to operate the Ministry of Justice-certified 'Multicultural Society Expert Degree Program' under the department's official name. With this new designation, the university's specialized educational capacity is expected to contribute even further to broader social engagement.

Going forward, Dongmyung University will operate the Ministry of Justice's early adaptation program not only for international students but also for long-term foreign residents, including youth who enter Korea midway through their schooling.

The university will provide essential education on laws, systems, daily life information, industrial safety and health, and crime prevention for newcomers. For international students, it will also offer academic management, dormitory life support, club activities, and other programs to help them adapt to campus life.

As the Ministry of Justice announced preferential conditions for 'universities training foreign care workers' during this designation process, Dongmyung University will also expand its multifaceted support for the local settlement of immigrants and international students.

Since December last year, Dongmyung University has already been selected as an operator of the 'Immigrant Social Integration Program' for three years, systematically helping participants acquire basic knowledge in Korean language, Korean culture, and social law. Those who complete the program are exempt from providing proof of Korean language proficiency when applying for the written test for nationality acquisition and permanent residency.

Kim Sangsoo, head of the Department of Korean Language Education and Multicultural Studies, stated, "Our efforts as a comprehensive university department specializing in multicultural education for adult learners and support for immigrants have been recognized," and added, "We will continue to provide substantial educational support so that immigrants can settle happily as members of the local community."
