Gwangju City Confirms Dates for the 2026 Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival and Gyeonggi-do Para Sports Festival
First Time Hosting in 72 Years, Anticipation Runs High Among Citizens
City Aims to Expand Sports Infrastructure and Boost Local Economy Through the Event

The dates for the 72nd Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival and the 16th Gyeonggi-do Para Sports Festival, both to be held in 2026, have been confirmed.
On July 28, Gwangju City announced that the 72nd Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival will take place from April 16 to 18 next year, and the 16th Gyeonggi-do Para Sports Festival will be held from April 26 to 28.
Approximately 20,000 participants, including athletes and officials from 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi-do, are expected to compete fiercely and share camaraderie, providing a stage for unity and inspiration among Gyeonggi-do's 14 million residents through sports.
In particular, as this is the first time Gwangju City is hosting the Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival, citizens' anticipation is higher than ever. The city expects that, through this event, it will further expand its local sports infrastructure and create a festival for citizens, thereby revitalizing the local economy and widely promoting Gwangju City's reputation both domestically and internationally.
Mayor Bang Sehwan stated, "As this is a meaningful event being held in Gwangju City for the first time in 72 years, we will create a moving festival that unites citizens as one," adding, "We will focus all administrative capacities and thoroughly prepare to ensure the successful hosting of the event in the remaining period."
