This field trip was organized to allow children to experience the region's history, culture, resources, and industrial sites firsthand, thereby deepening their understanding of Yangju and clarifying the direction of policy proposals for realizing children's participatory rights.
The city tour began at Yangju City Hall and included a total of four locations: Hoeamsa Temple Site, Seoul Milk Yangju Factory, Yangju Government Office Site, and Yangju Hyanggyo. Each site represents a key space symbolizing Yangju's history, industry, and traditional culture, allowing children to experience the region's identity and values from multiple perspectives.
This activity was particularly promoted as part of Yangju's efforts to realize its vision for children's policies, following its selection in 2024 as the first UNICEF Child-Friendly City in northern Gyeonggi Province.
Yangju City has continued to expand various opportunities for participation to create an urban environment where children's rights are respected and fulfilled. This city tour served as an important opportunity for children to independently explore their community and develop their capacity to propose policies.
Kang Suhyeon, Mayor of Yangju, stated, "As a child-friendly city, it is our responsibility to support children in growing as key members of the local community," and added, "I hope this field trip helps children build pride in Yangju and encourages them to participate even more actively in future policy proposal activities."
Meanwhile, the Yangju City Children's Participation Committee is composed of elementary and middle school students in the area. The committee carries out various activities such as direct policy development and event planning to protect children's rights and ensure their opinions are reflected in municipal administration.
