On July 28, L&F, a company specializing in secondary battery materials, announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT), which operates under the National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST), for the joint development of next-generation cathode materials.
This agreement was promoted as part of the "K-BIC: Market-leading Next-generation Secondary Battery Innovation Strategy Research Group" project, which is overseen by KRICT. The signing ceremony took place on July 25 at KRICT's main campus in Daejeon and was attended by L&F Chief Production Officer (CPO) Jang Sungkyun, Research Director Jeon Sanghoon, KRICT President Lee Youngguk, Project Leader Kim Myunghwan, and other key officials.
Under the agreement, L&F will provide core cathode material samples such as high-nickel nickel cobalt manganese (NCM), cobalt-free (NMX), and lithium iron phosphate (LFP), while KRICT will be responsible for verifying and evaluating the performance of these cathode materials. This division of roles marks the beginning of full-scale joint research between the two organizations.
Going forward, both parties plan to establish specific research directions and create a systematic collaboration framework through ongoing technological exchange.
Jang Sungkyun, L&F's CPO, stated, "This agreement represents an important milestone that will allow us to lead the next-generation battery material market through the organic collaboration between L&F's advanced cathode material technology and KRICT's fundamental technologies. Through continuous technological exchange and joint research, we will further enhance our ability to respond to global customers."
