DL E&C Becomes First in Industry to Introduce Drone Platform at All Residential Sites

First in the Construction Industry to Fully Expand Adoption
Smart Construction for Precision, Cost Reduction, and Productivity Improvement
Technology Applied Across All Stages, Including Simulation and Business Feasibility Review

DL E&C has become the first in the domestic construction industry to fully implement 'drone-based digital twin' technology at all of its residential sites. This is part of a smart construction strategy aimed not only at process, quality, and safety management, but also at improving construction accuracy, reducing costs, and enhancing productivity.

On July 28, DL E&C announced that it has established a digital twin system through a drone platform jointly developed with the smart construction platform company Meissa, and is currently applying this system to all of its residential sites. The company has also piloted the technology at some civil engineering and plant sites. There are plans to expand it to all business sites in the future.

Digital twin technology replicates real-world objects and environments in a virtual space. By creating a three-dimensional (3D) copy of construction sites, it enables real-time monitoring and precise simulation. DL E&C regularly conducts aerial photography of sites using drones, and visualizes and analyzes the status of each process as a 3D model based on this data.

In particular, the drone platform can measure slope, area, and distance, and also compare construction drawings with the actual site, thereby increasing the accuracy of processes. In the past, earthwork volume was calculated based on truck entry data, which led to errors, but now, with drone imaging data, it can be calculated automatically, resulting in a significant improvement in precision.

DL E&C is also utilizing this platform during the business feasibility review stage before securing contracts. Going forward, the company plans to advance the system by incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically detect and respond to risk factors at sites.

A DL E&C representative stated, "Based on the industry's best technologies and experience, such as drones, AI, and Building Information Modeling (BIM), we will realize smart construction that achieves the three pillars of quality, safety, and productivity."
