The non-profit meal service organization 'Sarangeui Babcha' and the Gapyeong County District Council of the Korean Red Cross are providing hot meals to volunteers and military personnel working at the site, even amid the intense heat.
'Sarangeui Babcha' supplied a total of 2,800 lunchboxes to volunteers and soldiers in the Jojong-myeon area of Gapyeong over four days from July 24 to July 27. Each day, they prepared 700 lunchboxes on-site and delivered them directly to those working on the recovery efforts.
About 20 members stayed in Gapyeong, taking care of their own lodging and meals, and began preparing ingredients at dawn to make the lunchboxes with care. Instead of delivering the lunchboxes, the operation was organized so that volunteers would pick them up themselves, enabling quick meal service tailored to on-site conditions.
'Sarangeui Babcha' is a volunteer group founded in 1998 by chef Chae Seongtae, and is currently operated by Kim Oknan, the mother of actress Gong Hyojin. The group is funded by private donations and members' own contributions, and mainly provides free meals to vulnerable groups.
Chairperson Kim Oknan said, "Thanks to the volunteers who have come to the flood site, the community is getting back on its feet. I wanted to support them in any way we could," adding, "I hope that this time of solidarity, rather than mere support, will bring even greater comfort to all of us."

The Gapyeong County District Council of the Korean Red Cross is also conducting daily meal service at the Sanjang Tourist Site in Deokhyeon-ri, Sang-myeon during the same period.
This meal service, which began on July 24, is scheduled to continue until July 31, with about 50 members participating each day to prepare meals for 600 people daily.
Despite the sweltering weather, members diligently took part in the volunteer work, even on Sunday, July 27, providing heartfelt lunches to volunteers and soldiers.
Chairperson Won Jiyeon said, "I am grateful and feel rewarded to be able to serve meals to volunteers who have come from all over to help in the midst of this devastating flood site."
