A Nine-Day Signature Summer Festival
Blending Euneo Fishing, Performances, and Culinary Delights
The 27th Bonghwa Euneo Festival kicked off its nine-day schedule with an opening ceremony at 1 p.m. on July 26 at the riverside stage of Naeseongcheon in Bonghwa-eup.
Approximately 1,000 people, including Bonghwa County Governor Park Hyunkook (Chairman of the Bonghwa Festival Tourism Foundation), local organization leaders, residents, and tourists, attended the event to celebrate the start of the festival together.
The festival officially began with the opening declaration and a touch-button performance featuring both local and external dignitaries. The signature programs, "Euneo Bandu Fishing Experience" and "Bare-Handed Fishing Experience," proved extremely popular, selling out all sessions within just one hour of opening.
Tourists enjoyed culinary delights at the "Euneo Charcoal Grill Zone," where they could grill and eat the fish they caught on the spot, as well as at large restaurants offering crispy fried euneo and a variety of other euneo dishes. The festival grounds were bustling with families, adding to the lively summer atmosphere.
Meanwhile, Bonghwa County launched campaigns focused on eradicating price gouging, ensuring safe operations, and promoting eco-friendly practices. The county also operated a joint situation room for hygiene inspections and disaster response, ensuring thorough safety management.
From 8 p.m., a celebratory concert featuring popular singers such as Yoon Minsoo (Vibe), Kim Yeonji (SeeYa), the girl group LIGHTSUM, and trot singers Kim Dahyun and Choi Woojin further heightened the festive mood.
Governor Park Hyunkook stated, "This year's Euneo Festival has greatly enhanced its hands-on content and performances that appeal to all generations," and added, "I hope everyone creates unforgettable summer memories in the pristine nature of Bonghwa."
The 27th Bonghwa Euneo Festival will run through August 3 around Naeseongcheon in Bonghwa-eup, featuring a variety of programs such as the Euneo Fishing Experience, national competitions, and the Euneo Road Challenge.
At the Gyeongbuk Bonghwa Euno Festival, a mother and her son are catching euno fish with their bare hands, and the child is delighted.
