Successful Completion Ceremony of the "Tower of Light and Time"
Established as a Symbol of a Marine Tourism City
On July 26, the city of Pohang successfully held the completion ceremony for the "Tower of Light and Time" at Yeongildae Beach, which is expected to become a new landmark of Pohang as a marine tourism city.
The event was attended by Mayor Lee Kangdeok, City Council Chairman Kim Ilman, key local figures, citizens, and tourists?over 300 participants in total. The ceremony featured a progress report, the presentation of appreciation plaques, commemorative speeches, performances, and a drone light show, among other diverse programs.
The "Tower of Light and Time" was built by demolishing the old, outdated clock tower and serves as a symbol embodying the identity and future vision of Pohang as a marine tourism city. Its design represents the sun rising over the horizon, the sea, light, and waves. On the night of the completion ceremony, the LED panel lighting created a beautiful nightscape that drew much attention.
In particular, the newly unveiled clock tower goes beyond simply displaying the time. It is a multifunctional digital installation capable of providing real-time local weather and tourism information, announcing events and festivals, and broadcasting LED media content. As such, it is expected to become a symbol of Pohang's smart tourism infrastructure.
With the completion of this installation, the city plans to accelerate efforts to enhance the coastal landscape and strengthen nighttime tourism content, focusing on the Yeongildae Beach area.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "I hope the Tower of Light and Time will become a landmark representing Pohang as a marine city and leave a lasting impression on both citizens and tourists. With the completion of the Tower of Light and Time, we will continue to enhance Pohang’s unique appeal through distinctive designs and vibrant content, making Pohang an even more beautiful and attractive city."
