Governor Park emphasized, "Recently, due to the effects of climate change, disaster patterns such as extreme rainfall are becoming increasingly diverse and frequent. As disaster risks rise, the roles of the government and the National Assembly in prevention and policy improvement are more crucial than ever."
He asked the head of the Korea Forest Service to significantly expand the scale of erosion control projects for landslide-prone areas and steep slopes, and requested an increase in national funding support.
He also requested the following: ▲Government-level measures to prevent reckless development in areas adjacent to mountains ▲Inclusion of government funding for local river dredging and unification of management authorities for national and local rivers under the central government ▲Inclusion of strawberry seedling cultivation in disaster insurance coverage and institutional improvements for realistic restoration cost support for greenhouse facilities.
As urgent issues for the early recovery from heavy rainfall damage, he proposed: ▲Additional designation of Uiryeong, Jinju, Hadong, and Hamyang as special disaster zones ▲Temporary easing of restrictions on the use of consumption coupons within special disaster zones ▲Incorporation of customized restoration and improvement for each damaged facility and comprehensive recovery plans at the district level.
He also raised the following issues: ▲Provision of 50 billion won in forest disaster countermeasure funds for permanent restoration projects ▲Raising the government’s share of road and facility disaster recovery costs from the current 50% to 70% ▲Increasing the support amount for housing restoration in special disaster zones to the level provided for wildfire-affected areas ▲Establishment of a National Wildfire Prevention Center in the southern region to strengthen initial response capabilities.
On this day, members of the wildfire special committee and officials from the Korea Forest Service visited the site together, inspected the damage, and discussed recovery and prevention measures.
