2nd Forum to Be Held at Jeonil Building 245 on the 29th
Sharing Survey Results and Discussing Operational Direction
The "2nd Forum" to discuss the official name and operational direction of the former Jeonnam Provincial Government Office, known as the final stronghold of the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on July 29 in the multipurpose auditorium on the 9th floor of Jeonil Building 245.
This forum is co-hosted by Gwangju City, the Former Jeonnam Provincial Government Office Restoration Promotion Team of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Pan-Citizen Committee for the Restoration of the Former Jeonnam Provincial Government Office, which together form the Restoration Council. The event aims to reflect on the significance of the former Jeonnam Provincial Government Office as the final stronghold of the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement and to engage citizens in considering the official name and future operational direction of the restored building.
The forum will be chaired by Lee Gihun, Director of the Gwangju Civil Society Support Center. Panelists will include Hong Seongchil, Executive Chair of the Restoration Committee, Ryu Jaehan, President of the Asian Culture Hub City Support Forum, and Kim Gonghyu, Secretary General of the May 18 Injured Association, who will participate in in-depth discussions.
During the forum, the results of the "Preferred Name for the Restored Former Jeonnam Provincial Government Office" survey, conducted by Gwangju City from July 1 to 6 through the citizen participation platform "GwangjuOn," will be announced. The survey presented several candidate names, including ▲National May 18 Former Jeonnam Provincial Government Memorial Hall ▲National May 18 Democratic Uprising History Hall ▲National May 18 People's Uprising Memorial Hall ▲National May 18 Final Stronghold Hall. Additionally, opinions were gathered on which words?such as "National," "Former Jeonnam Provincial Government," "Final Stronghold," "Democracy," and "Human Rights"?should be included in the name of the restored building.
The city plans to collect a wide range of citizen opinions regarding the name and operating body of the restored building through this forum and to reflect these views in the creation of a symbolic space that embodies the spirit of democracy, human rights, and peace.
