Gyeonggi Province Holds Deputy Heads Meeting on Heavy Rain, Heat Wave, and Consumption Coupon Measures

On July 25, Gyeonggi Province held a meeting with deputy heads of cities and counties, focusing on recovery from heavy rain damage, response to heat waves, and measures to revitalize the local economy by stimulating consumption.

The meeting, presided over by Kim Sungjung, the First Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs of Gyeonggi Province, first reviewed the protection of disaster victims and the progress of emergency restoration in flood-affected areas such as Gapyeong and Pocheon.

Currently, Gyeonggi Province is operating the Gyeonggi Province-Gapyeong County Integrated Support Center, which consists of a general control team, a rescue team, and an emergency restoration team.

Previously, on July 22, Gapyeong County was designated as a special disaster area at the request of Gyeonggi Province. Gyeonggi Province is considering providing 'Daily Life Recovery Support Funds' in accordance with its own regulations.

During the meeting, Gyeonggi Province also focused on discussing measures to protect vulnerable groups from the heat wave, including outdoor workers, rural laborers, and the elderly.

Gyeonggi Province emphasized effective on-site measures such as suspending construction work when the perceived temperature exceeds 35 degrees Celsius. In addition, deputy heads of local governments will directly inspect cooling centers.

Gyeonggi Province also reviewed the status of the 'Livelihood Recovery Consumption Coupon' program, which aims to boost the local economy. While the 'Visiting Application Service' for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and people with disabilities is underway, a total of 7,793,000 people received 1.2512 trillion won over four days from July 21, when the first round of payments began, to July 24.

Gyeonggi Province requested that efforts be made to ensure that the support funds are distributed quickly and without omission, so that they can effectively stimulate consumption, and that publicity and response to civil complaints be prioritized.

In addition, discussions continued on key cooperation issues such as strengthening collaboration with the central government following the launch of the new administration, fire safety management in aging apartment complexes, and crackdowns on illegal facilities in river valleys.

Kim Sungjung, First Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "At this critical time, residents who have lost their homes due to sudden heavy rain urgently need swift recovery and a return to normal life," and added, "With flood damage, heat waves, and economic hardship overlapping, Gyeonggi Province and its cities and counties must work together in a systematic manner to respond effectively."
