Lee Youngae's Five-Minute Speech at Daegu Metropolitan Council
Lee Youngae, a member of the Daegu Metropolitan Council (People Power Party, Dalseo-gu District 1), will deliver a five-minute free speech at the 3rd plenary session of the 318th extraordinary session on July 28, strongly urging Daegu City to establish systematic and effective energy support measures. She points out that small and medium-sized manufacturing companies, particularly those centered around the Seongseo Industrial Complex, are facing a survival crisis due to rising industrial electricity rates.
Lee notes, "The Seongseo Industrial Complex, which can be called the heart of Daegu's manufacturing industry, has been experiencing a crisis in recent years due to sharply rising electricity rates and the absence of tailored support." She further points out, "In particular, industrial electricity rates have increased by more than 60% over the past three years, significantly increasing the fixed costs for companies."
According to a survey by the Daegu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, 82.3% of manufacturing companies in the Daegu area feel a management burden due to rising energy prices, and among them, 68.4% have not received any support from either the government or local authorities.
Lee criticizes this situation as being caused by a lack of access to policy information and a uniform support system that does not reflect the realities of businesses. She plans to propose three measures: promoting customized high-efficiency equipment support projects by industry, holding on-site explanatory sessions for companies, and establishing an integrated management system based on interdepartmental collaboration.
Lee Youngae emphasizes, "Manufacturing is the foundation of the local economy, and at its center are the small and medium-sized enterprises in the Seongseo Industrial Complex." She is expected to urge, "If these companies collapse, the entire Daegu economy will inevitably be shaken. Daegu City must not ignore the urgency on the ground and should promptly prepare practical measures that can be genuinely felt."
