"Claims of World’s Thinnest Proven False... Foldable Phone Thickness Measurements Surprise" Comparison of Thickness for Major Domestic and International Foldable Phones. KCEA

As competition over device thickness intensifies among foldable phone manufacturers, it has been confirmed that several Chinese smartphones, which had advertised themselves as the thinnest in the world, are in fact thicker than their stated specifications when measured. In contrast, Samsung's 'Z Fold 7' was measured at 8.82mm, which is actually slightly thinner than its official specification, making it the slimmest among the devices tested.

On July 24, the Korea Consumer-centered Enterprise Association (KCEA) announced the results of its measurement of the thickness of major foldable phones from domestic and international manufacturers, including Samsung Electronics, Honor, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Huawei, using an external micrometer.

First, the thickness of the Honor 'Magic V5' Ivory White model was found to be 9.34mm, which is 0.54mm thicker than the stated specification of 8.8mm. This product had been promoted at launch as "the world's thinnest foldable phone."

Huawei showed the largest discrepancy between the stated specification and actual measured thickness. While the company claimed a thickness of 9.85mm, the actual measurement was 10.47mm, which is 0.62mm thicker. This figure is closer to Samsung's previous foldable model, the 'Z Fold 6' (12.1mm).

Vivo and Xiaomi foldable phones also showed differences between the official specifications and actual measurements. Vivo's 'X Fold5' measured 9.77mm, which is 0.57mm thicker than the official specification of 9.2mm, while Xiaomi's 'Mix Fold4' was also 0.14mm thicker than its stated specification.

In contrast, the thickness of Samsung Electronics' 'Galaxy Z Fold 7' was measured at 8.82mm, which is 0.08mm thinner than the officially announced thickness of 8.9mm. Not only is this thinner than the official specification, but the 'Galaxy Z Fold 7' is also the only global manufacturer's device to break the "9mm thickness barrier."

The KCEA stated, "Consumer information must be accurate and sufficient regarding products that are actually distributed and sold," and pointed out, "As competition to slim down devices intensifies and differences of 0.1mm are highlighted, companies must provide information about the final product that matches the consumer's usage situation."
