The trial of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, who was additionally indicted by the special prosecutor Cho Eunseok's team investigating the 12·3 Martial Law-related rebellion and treason case, will begin on the 19th of next month.
According to the legal community on the 24th, the 35th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Baek Daehyun) has scheduled the first preparatory hearing for Yoon's case, who was additionally indicted on charges including obstruction of special official duties and falsification and use of official documents, for 11:00 a.m. on August 19.
The preparatory hearing is a procedure held before the formal trial to confirm the defendant's position regarding the criminal charges and to plan the evidence examination. Unlike a formal trial, the defendant is not required to attend.
Previously, on the afternoon of the 19th, the special prosecutor's team indicted former President Yoon under detention on charges including abuse of authority, obstruction of the exercise of rights, falsification and use of false official documents, violation of the Presidential Records Act, damage to official documents, violation of the Presidential Security Act, obstruction of special official duties, and instigation of suspect escape.
The trial for Yoon's case, in which he was indicted by the Martial Law Special Investigation Headquarters of the prosecution on charges of being the ringleader of rebellion and abuse of authority, is currently ongoing in the 25th Criminal Division. Depending on the court's future decision, there is a possibility that the two cases may be merged.
