Maximum of 5.03 Meters Forecasted
"Refrain from Parking in Low-Lying Areas"
Mokpo City in South Jeolla Province is making all-out efforts to prevent flooding damage caused by rising tidal levels during the early morning hours from July 25 to 27.
According to Mokpo City on July 24, the sea level is expected to rise to a maximum of 5.03 meters between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. during this period. In particular, the early morning of July 26 is forecast to reach 5.03 meters, the highest level on the tidal chart, requiring special caution.
To prevent flooding in coastal low-lying areas, the city has organized emergency response teams and completed pre-inspections of disaster prevention facilities such as drainage pump stations, sluice gates, and drainage floodgates. The city is also intensifying monitoring activities in areas vulnerable to flooding. In particular, the city urged residents to refrain from parking vehicles on coastal roads and in low-lying areas, as these vehicles are at high risk of flooding.
The city designates days when the tidal level exceeds 4.90 meters as “sea level danger days” and operates a response system accordingly. The city is focusing its administrative resources on swift response measures to prevent flood damage and ensure citizen safety.
A city official stated, "There is a possibility that tidal levels may rise higher than expected, so residents of low-lying areas and vehicle owners need to exercise special caution and cooperate with the city’s efforts," and added, "We will make thorough preparations in advance to prevent any loss of life or property damage."
