Proposal for Inclusion of Key Projects in National Budget,
Including Comprehensive Flood Risk Management for the Nabul District
Jo Kyuil, Mayor of Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, visited the Ministry of Economy and Finance and other central government agencies to propose national funding for major projects planned for next year and to request cooperation on local issues.
On July 23, Mayor Jo met in succession with Yoo Byungseo, Budget Director, and other budget review officials at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. He explained the necessity and justification for securing national funding for key projects essential to Jinju's future development and requested that these projects be included in the government budget proposal.
The main projects proposed by the city include: ▲ Comprehensive flood risk management for the Nabul district ▲ Establishment of a full-cycle standardization hub for natural materials ▲ Construction of a certification test field for core materials and parts for future mobility ▲ Development of a wide-area tourism belt in the southern region ▲ Construction of a public aerospace science museum, among a total of 12 projects, with a combined budget of approximately 30.2 billion won.
Mayor Jo Kyuil is meeting with Yoo Byungseo, Budget Director of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
In particular, Mayor Jo strongly advocated for the inclusion of new funding for the comprehensive flood risk management project in the Nabul district of Myeongseok-myeon to prevent disasters. He also actively requested that the full-cycle standardization hub for natural materials, which will serve as a growth engine for the green bio industry in the Gyeongnam region, be included in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' budget proposal as planned.
He then met with the Director General of Fiscal Management and the Head of Feasibility Review at the Ministry of Economy and Finance to request cooperation so that the Sacheon-Sacheon~Jinju Jeongchon road construction project can pass the preliminary feasibility study.
After visiting the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Mayor Jo also visited the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in succession to request smooth implementation of pending projects and cooperation from government agencies.
At the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, he reported on the flood damage in the Nabulcheon area of Myeongseok-myeon caused by heavy rains from July 17 to 19, and requested cooperation to ensure that Jinju's Nabul district is selected for the comprehensive flood risk management project, a public contest project of the ministry.
At the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, he requested continued cooperation to ensure that the full-cycle standardization hub for natural materials is included in next year's government budget proposal. At the Ministry of Environment, he proposed the restoration of national funding and an increase in the total project budget for the installation of advanced water treatment facilities at the Jinju Water Purification Plant, a project transferred to local government.
At the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, he proposed national funding for the establishment of a Jinju branch of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the hosting of the Korea Drama Festival, and the overseas exhibition of Jinju K-cultural content.
Mayor Jo Kyuil stated, "I will do my utmost until the end to secure as much national funding as possible so that major pending projects that can secure Jinju's future growth engines and revitalize the local economy and citizens' lives are reflected in next year's government budget proposal."
