The alliance of Dongshin University, Chodang University, and Mokpo Science University, which received preliminary designation as a Glocal University for 2025 by the Ministry of Education, announced on the 24th that it held a "Vision Declaration Ceremony for the Successful Promotion of Glocal University UCC."
The event took place on the morning of the 23rd at the Donggang Hall in the Central Library of Dongshin University. It was attended by approximately 200 people, including Lee Juhee, President of Dongshin University; Seo Yumi, President of Chodang University; Lee Hokyun, President of Mokpo Science University; as well as key executives, faculty, and students from each university. During the ceremony, participants pledged to realize carbon neutrality in Jeonnam through a Smart Energy Cluster and shared their vision for final selection as a Glocal University.
The presidents of the three universities declared their vision before the members: "We will establish a Smart Energy Cluster to achieve carbon neutrality in Jeonnam," "We will nurture 10,000 specialized RE100 professionals to increase the resident workforce in Jeonnam," and "We will revitalize Jeonnam with the Glocal University UCC I-N-G Campus." The members also pledged their active participation in these initiatives.
At the vision declaration ceremony, Park Seongil, Director of Planning at Dongshin University, presented the Glocal University 30 UCC promotion strategy and main initiatives of the Dongshin University alliance, highlighting "a carbon-neutral smart cluster in Jeonnam that attracts people and businesses as a regional public-type small but strong alliance university" as the core vision.
The alliance expressed its commitment to realizing carbon neutrality in Jeonnam by building a Smart Energy Cluster through the Glocal University UCC, and to expanding the resident workforce in Jeonnam through the UCC I-N-G Campus, thereby creating a global Jeonnam where people and businesses gather together.
The Dongshin University alliance plans to use the regional public-type small but strong alliance university UCC (University Community Collaboration) as an innovation model to foster specialized talent by establishing a carbon-neutral smart cluster based in the region.
The UCC I-Campus will serve as the strategic center of the Glocal University and act as the control tower for integrated operations. It will coordinate university-wide governance, including curriculum, admissions, academic affairs, budgeting, and performance management, oversee integrated planning for education, research, and industry-academic cooperation, and consistently maintain the brand and quality of the entire UCC.
The UCC N-Campus, to be established in each local government, will function as a multi-campus providing a variety of residency-based majors and practical training directly linked to local industries associated with carbon neutrality. Local governments with universities will have specialized technology campuses, while those without universities will have regional development campuses. The N-CAMPUS locations in Yeonggwang, Haenam, Hampyeong, and Shinan will not only foster local industries but also serve as centers for customized lifelong education and career transition training for employees, former employees, local residents, and the elderly, as well as for capstone design, field training, and region-based projects as part of the residency-based education model.
The UCC G-Campus will represent the internationalization strategy and overseas expansion of the UCC, taking on roles such as global education for local talent, attracting international students, operating global joint curricula, and managing global field training, thereby serving as the hub for overseas expansion and global networking.
Through the UCC I-N-G Campuses, the Dongshin University alliance plans to establish an "Energy AI Convergence Cluster" based on RE100, focusing on Naju, Haenam, Yeonggwang, and Shinan; a "Future Mobility Convergence Cluster" centered on Muan, Yeonggwang, and Hampyeong to realize aviation and eco-friendly mobility; and a sustainable carbon-neutral innovation ecosystem in Jeonnam by fostering talent for carbon neutrality with resident participation and supporting lifelong education for adult learners.
Lee Juhee, President of Dongshin University, stated, "Through collaboration among local industry, academia, and research, we will inject sustainable growth momentum into the local community, nurture talent essential to the region, and create a model where universities and the region grow together." She added, "We will do our utmost to achieve final selection so that we can establish a 'sustainable regional development ecosystem' that connects learning, employment, and residency within the region, centered on the core task of carbon neutrality."
