A New Hub for Water Sports
Unique Urban Experiences Await
On July 24 at 10:30 a.m., the Ulsan city government will hold an opening ceremony for the Taehwagang Water Sports Center near the Simnidaebatgyo Bridge on the Taehwagang River.
The opening of the Taehwagang Water Sports Center is intended to expand the riverside area of Taehwagang into a citizen-friendly leisure space. Through this initiative, Ulsan City plans to provide citizens with a wider range of leisure and recreational sports activities.
Approximately 100 people are expected to attend the ceremony, including Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, city council members, the chairman and members of the Nam-gu District Council, Ulsan Sports Council President Kim Cheol-uk, representatives from the Korea Maritime Boy Scouts, Ulsan Paddle Board Federation, Ulsan Rowing Association, and Ulsan Canoe Federation.
After the ceremony, Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom and key guests will tour the facilities and take a ride on a 12-passenger party boat to celebrate the launch of this new sports venue together.
Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom stated, "I am pleased that with the opening of the Taehwagang Water Sports Center, citizens can now enjoy unique water leisure activities against the beautiful backdrop of the Taehwagang River in the heart of the city. We will continue to expand various sports infrastructure to support citizens' healthy and enjoyable leisure lives."
The Taehwagang Water Sports Center is equipped with one floating dock and five mobile trailers near Simnidaebatgyo Bridge, providing facilities such as an office, classrooms, showers, and equipment storage for water sports. To minimize inconvenience for visitors, ten temporary restrooms and ten Mongolian tents have also been installed.
Additionally, two water play areas have been set up so that kindergarten and elementary school students on summer vacation can use the swimming pools free of charge and enjoy a refreshing summer while overlooking the Taehwagang River.
Starting with the opening ceremony, the center will be operated by the Facilities Management Corporation until early November. After analyzing the results of this year's operations, any shortcomings will be addressed and improvements made, with plans to extend the operating period from April to November starting next year.
The center will operate one 12-passenger party boat and fifteen eco-friendly electric slow boats, and offer a variety of water leisure experiences such as canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding.
Special programs such as paddle board yoga and children's water play areas are also available, and are expected to be popular among family visitors.
In particular, visitors will be able to create special memories while viewing Ulsan's scenic landmarks such as Taehwaru Pavilion, the Skywalk, and Simnidaebatgyo Bridge from the water. The center is expected to become another major attraction of the Taehwagang River, alongside the Taehwaru Skywalk.
Usage fees are set at affordable rates so that many citizens can participate: canoeing and kayaking are free of charge, while boats cost 7,000 won per hour for 4-6 passengers and 7,500 won for the 12-passenger boat.
