Gyeonggi Province has established an institutional framework that enables the implementation of support projects to improve the residential environment of small, aging homes within the province.
On July 24, Gyeonggi Province announced that the “Partial Amendment to the Ordinance on Support for Repairs of Small, Aging Homes in Gyeonggi Province” was passed at the 385th extraordinary session of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council held on July 23, making it possible to carry out projects to improve the residential environment of small, aging homes, including the installation of safety facilities.
The support project for repairs of small, aging homes targets small, aging multi-family homes with fewer than 30 households that are at least 15 years old, as well as aging single-family homes that are at least 20 years old.
The project provides up to 16 million won for the repair or replacement of deteriorated facilities in common areas, such as rooftop waterproofing, painting, exterior and road crack repairs, and fire extinguishing systems. In cases where the interior of a household is in poor condition, up to 5 million won is provided for interior repairs.
The amendment to the ordinance adds safety facility improvement projects, such as the installation of openable security windows that facilitate evacuation in the event of various disasters, to the scope of the support project for repairs of small, aging homes.
Following the passage of this ordinance, Gyeonggi Province plans to actively support the installation of safety facilities, such as openable security windows, in facilities vulnerable to safety risks when carrying out the support project for repairs of small, aging homes.
Kim Tae-su, Director of Urban Regeneration at Gyeonggi Province, said, "Safety facilities such as openable security windows are extremely important for the safety of residents, and we have been supporting their installation. The significance of this ordinance amendment lies in providing institutional backing for such support."
