On July 23, President Lee Jaemyung held a phone conversation with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
On the same day, Kang Yujeong, spokesperson for the presidential office, stated in a written briefing, "During the call, President Lee expressed his gratitude to President Tokayev for sending a congratulatory letter wishing success to Korea's new government. He also noted that since establishing a strategic partnership in 2009, the two countries have continued to strengthen cooperation and expressed hope for even greater collaboration in the future."
In particular, President Lee thanked President Tokayev for actively supporting the repatriation of General Hong Beomdo's remains. President Lee also requested continued interest and support for Korean companies operating in Kazakhstan.
In response, President Tokayev proposed working together to further improve bilateral relations on the occasion of Korea's new government taking office. He also offered his condolences regarding the recent loss of life caused by heavy rains in Korea.
The two leaders agreed to expand cooperation in areas such as infrastructure and key minerals going forward.
