The Ministry of Justice has notified senior prosecutors at the level of chief prosecutor and above that they are subject to personnel changes, ahead of the first round of prosecutorial appointments under the Lee Jaemyung administration. After confirming whether these officials intend to resign, a large-scale reshuffle is expected to take place soon.
According to the legal community on July 23, the Ministry of Justice recently contacted chief prosecutors of high prosecutors' offices and district prosecutors' offices nationwide to inform them that they are included in the personnel changes. The intent is effectively to prompt them to clarify their intentions, such as expressing their resignation, ahead of the upcoming appointments.
The officials subject to personnel changes reportedly include Shin Jayong (Judicial Research and Training Institute class 28), Director of the Legal Research and Training Institute; Song Kyungho (class 29), Chief Prosecutor of the Busan High Prosecutors' Office; Shin Bongsoo (class 29), Chief Prosecutor of the Daegu High Prosecutors' Office; and Kwon Sunjeong (class 29), Chief Prosecutor of the Suwon High Prosecutors' Office. All of these officials were appointed to key positions during the Yoon Sukyeol administration.
It has been reported that Park Kidong, Chief Prosecutor of the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office, as well as Jung Younghak, Chief Prosecutor of the Busan District Prosecutors' Office, and Jung Heedo, Head of the Public Prosecution Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, expressed their intention to resign to the Ministry of Justice on this day.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Justice is expected to carry out senior-level prosecutorial appointments as early as the end of this week.
