Former President Yoon Sukyeol is expected to be absent from the trial scheduled for July 24 on charges of being the ringleader of an insurrection.
According to the legal community on July 23, Yoon's defense team submitted a written opinion to the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 25 (Presiding Judge Ji Guyoun), which is handling the case on charges of being the ringleader of an insurrection and abuse of power, stating that it would be difficult for Yoon to attend the 10th hearing scheduled for July 24 due to health reasons.
Previously, Yoon did not appear at the trials held on July 10 and July 17. As a result, the court proceeded by hearing witness testimonies without Yoon present, using the "witness examination outside the scheduled date" method.
Yoon, who was additionally indicted by Special Prosecutor Cho Eunseok's team investigating insurrection and treason charges related to the 12·3 Martial Law, is currently being held at the Seoul Detention Center.
Since the arrest warrant was issued on July 10, Yoon has been absent from the trial for two consecutive weeks and has not complied with the special prosecutor's requests to appear.
