On July 23, Guri City announced that it will take over a 20,666㎡ area and related facilities under the GodeokTopyeong Bridge, which were used as a construction site for the bridge and interchange during Section 14 of the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway (Anseong to Guri) project, from Korea Expressway Corporation in August.

Prior to the transfer, Guri City has been transforming this area into a space for citizens by expanding the functions of the Guri Hangang Citizens' Park. As of mid-July, the project is 99.9% complete and entering the final stage.

The city will also open new park entrances and exits to allow vehicles to directly access the Seoul (Guri) and Yangpyeong (Namyangju) directions via Gangbyeonbuk-ro from Guri Hangang Citizens' Park.

Additionally, the city has secured a parking lot with 421 spaces on a 13,714㎡ site. A 900㎡ water play area, expected to provide enjoyment for families during the summer, is also being created along with one restroom facility.

A new 2,100㎡ plaza has been built, and for rest facilities, two pergolas, 18 back benches, two picnic tables, and a 143㎡ wooden deck have been installed.

Around the park, 87 trees?including pine, zelkova, Chionanthus retusus, and green maple?along with 2,723 shrubs have been planted to create a pleasant environment and enhance the park's vegetation. In addition, one management office and one restroom have been installed to ensure that park staff are stationed on-site and can respond quickly to even minor public requests.

The city has also created a 2,716㎡ walking trail in this area. Lighting facilities have been installed, including 38 streetlights, 34 security lights, and 10 bollard lights, as well as 72 speakers and 12 amplifiers to enhance both safety and the park's atmosphere. Eighteen landscape lights have been installed on the bridge piers to illuminate the area with colorful lights at night.

A city official stated, "We will carry out inspections and supplementary discussions on the facilities to be transferred by July 31, and will proceed with the formal transfer from Korea Expressway Corporation to Guri City in August."

Mayor Baek Kyunghyun said, "Since construction began in December 2016, the Guri Hangang Citizens' Park had been disconnected for eight years due to bridge construction, but by the end of this month, it will be reconnected. I hope this park becomes a beloved space for many citizens."
