Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Suhyeon) announced on the 23rd that it will launch a commemorative project titled 'Searching for the Independence Movement of Yangju' in celebration of the 80th anniversary of Liberation. The initiative aims to shed new light on the noble life and spirit of independence activist Cho Soang, and to reflect on the meaning of Liberation together with citizens.

This project has been designed so that all generations can resonate with the spirit of Liberation and the value of the local anti-Japanese movement. Various hands-on experiences, tours, and cultural performances will be held at historical sites such as the Cho Soang Memorial Hall and the Yangju Gwannaji.
The main programs include: ▲ a history education program for elementary school students titled 'Independence Movement with Cho Soang'; ▲ 'Walking Together Through Yangju's Independence Movement Sites', a walking tour of anti-Japanese heritage sites; and ▲ 'I Am Also an Independence Activist', an experiential content program open to all citizens.
In particular, on August 15, Liberation Day, a commemorative event will be held at Yangju Gwannaji to reflect on the life of Cho Soang and the significance of Liberation. Special programs will include a lecture by Professor Shin Byungjoo of Konkuk University and a performance by the Kwon Byungho Trio, as well as a variety of activities that all generations can participate in and enjoy together.
Through this project, Yangju City aims to continuously inherit and develop the philosophy and spirit of independence of Cho Soang by integrating them with local cultural content. The city also plans to strengthen the educational and experiential functions of major cultural heritage sites such as the Cho Soang Memorial Hall and Yangju Gwannaji, making it easier for citizens to access their historical value. In addition, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Liberation, the city seeks to foster historical empathy across generations and regions and to contribute to the cultivation of local identity.
