"Moonlight Alliance" Daegu Volunteers Work Tirelessly in Gwangju More than 90 Daegu city officials and volunteers, who formed the "Moonlight Alliance," are carrying out support activities at the flood recovery site in Gwangju, which was damaged by heavy rain on the 23rd. Provided by Gwangju City

Volunteers from Daegu, part of the "Moonlight Alliance," worked tirelessly at the flood recovery sites in Gwangju, which suffered damage from extreme heavy rain.

On July 23, Gwangju City announced that more than 90 Daegu city officials and volunteers, who are members of the "Moonlight Alliance," carried out support activities at the flood recovery sites in Gwangju, which had been damaged by heavy rainfall.

The recovery efforts took place on this day in Seochang-dong, Seo-gu and Wolchul-dong, Buk-gu, with more than 90 Daegu volunteers participating. They worked hard to clean flooded flowerpots, remove contaminated water from warehouses, and dismantle greenhouses. The Gwangju City Volunteer Center also joined at the site to assist with the recovery.

Gwangju City provided lunch for the volunteers, while Daegu City further demonstrated solidarity by donating more than 900 items, including hats, arm sleeves, and handheld fans, as well as a fund of 100 million won to Gwangju.

This support was based on the spirit of the "Moonlight Alliance," a long-standing cooperative relationship between Gwangju and Daegu, and is being recognized as a model example of inter-local government cooperation during a disaster.

Lee Byungcheol, Director of Planning and Coordination, said, "I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Daegu volunteers who did not hesitate to travel a long distance when Gwangju was in a difficult situation," and added, "We will continue to protect the lives and safety of citizens through solidarity and cooperation between Gwangju and Daegu."
