The Community Chest of Korea (Chairman Kim Byungjun) announced on July 23 that an anonymous donor contributed 5 million won to the Gyeongnam branch of the Community Chest of Korea to support recovery efforts following heavy rainfall damage.
The donor, who did not reveal their name, left a small box in front of the Gyeongnam Community Chest of Korea office the previous day. Inside the box were a chrysanthemum flower in memory of the victims, a carefully handwritten letter, and an envelope containing 5 million won in cash.
Known only as the "Gyeongnam Sharing Angel," the donor has quietly continued acts of giving at disaster and accident sites since 2017 without disclosing their identity. The donor has made anonymous donations to the Community Chest of Korea in response to various disasters, including the Jinju apartment arson incident (2019), the COVID-19 outbreak (2020), wildfires in Gangwon and Gyeongbuk (2022), the T?rkiye-Syria earthquake (2023), and the Jeju Air passenger plane accident (2025). The cumulative amount donated so far totals approximately 690 million won.
The letter left by the donor contained the heartfelt message: "I offer my deepest condolences and respect to those who lost their lives due to the localized heavy rainfall. I extend my sincere sympathy to the disaster victims who have lost their homes and are in despair. Although the amount is small, I hope it can be of some help in the recovery. Please stay strong."
Kang Kicheol, Chairman of the Gyeongnam Community Chest of Korea, stated, "Although we do not know this donor's name or face, their quiet solidarity in the face of the region's pain deeply moves many people. The Community Chest of Korea will gather these warmhearted contributions and deliver practical support to Gyeongnam and other affected areas."
