The 'Gwangcheon Seasoned Gim·Togeul Saeujeot Grand Festival,' the representative local festival of Hongseong County in South Chungcheong Province, is preparing to welcome visitors with upgraded content as it marks its 30th anniversary this year.
The '30th Gwangcheon Seasoned Gim·Gwangcheon Togeul Saeujeot Grand Festival Organizing Committee' announced on July 23 that it held its first meeting at the Gwangcheon-eup Administrative Welfare Center on the afternoon of July 22, officially kicking off preparations for the festival.
More than 30 people attended the meeting, including 13 working committee members recommended by local residents, as well as representatives of professional organizations and public officials.
The committee elected Kim Noseong, chair of the Gwangcheon-eup Residents' Autonomy Committee, as chairperson; Jeong Sanggyun, head of the Gwangcheon Gim Producers' Cooperative, and Lim Suyeon, president of the Togeul Saeujeot Association, as vice chairpersons. The festival dates were set for three days, from October 17 to 19.
The committee emphasized its commitment to making this year's festival, which carries the symbolic significance of the 30th anniversary, an event that will elevate Gwangcheon's status and highlight the value of traditional foods.
Gwangcheon Togeul Saeujeot was designated as National Important Fishery Heritage No. 15 last year, and Gwangcheon Seasoned Gim has established itself as a leading K-food, gaining popularity both domestically and internationally.
Accordingly, this year's festival will serve as a platform to widely promote the excellence of these two traditional foods and the region's traditional culture.
This year's event will feature a variety of programs, including exhibitions, tastings, hands-on experiences, and performances, offering visitors a rich array of sights, foods, and activities to enjoy.
Last year, the festival attracted more than 45,000 visitors, solidifying its status as the nation's leading local festival.
Kim Noseong, chair of the organizing committee, stated, "We will devote our utmost efforts to make this a meaningful festival that reflects on the past 30 years and prepares for the next 30 years," adding, "We aim to use this opportunity to promote the excellence and culture of our regional specialties nationwide."
Jeong Huichae, head of Gwangcheon-eup, said, "We will spare no administrative support to enhance Gwangcheon's brand value and provide tangible help for the local economy," and emphasized, "We will do our best to ensure a safe and enjoyable festival for both residents and tourists."
Meanwhile, Gwangcheon Seasoned Gim and Togeul Saeujeot, traditional foods that Hongseong County takes pride in, are expected to have their value highlighted once again through this festival as both cultural and economic assets of the region.
