Order to Strengthen Promotion of Heat-Related Illness Prevention Measures
"In order to respond quickly to damage caused by heavy rain, it is essential to have sufficient supplies and equipment ready. In addition to public officials, residents and voluntary disaster prevention groups should also be supported so that they can access disaster prevention supplies at any time," he said.
Choi Minho, Mayor of Sejong, made these remarks during an executive meeting held on July 22. He also called for special measures to prevent heatstroke during outdoor and work activities, and instructed that basic guidelines for coping with heat waves be actively communicated to citizens.
He particularly emphasized the need to closely monitor the safety of all those vulnerable to heat waves, as the weather remains hot and humid following the recent period of heavy rain. He directed companies, senior centers, and eup-myeon-dong administrative welfare centers to take appropriate measures and monitor for heat-related illnesses in workers, the elderly, and farmers, who are especially exposed to the heat.
Furthermore, he urged related departments and bureaus that work closely with citizens and workers to actively promote heat wave safety guidelines and send official notices, including ensuring that workers are given sufficient rest time.
Mayor Choi also issued safety instructions ahead of the Jochiwon Peach Festival, which is scheduled to take place from July 25. He stressed the importance of thorough heat wave safety measures during the festival period to ensure that citizens can enjoy the event safely.
He also instructed that sandbags, plastic sheeting, and other disaster prevention supplies be adequately stocked at all eup-myeon-dong administrative welfare centers, and that measures be put in place to distribute them to citizens in the event of damage caused by typhoons or heavy rain.
