Heavy Rain Damage to Farms: Damage Assessment Within 3 Days of Report, 50% of Estimated Insurance Paid in Advance

The government is expediting damage assessments to ensure that farms affected by heavy rains receive insurance payouts quickly. Damage investigations will be conducted within three days of receiving a damage report, and 50% of the estimated insurance payout will be provided in advance.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on July 23 that it had been urgently carrying out damage assessments from July 16 to July 20 to enable farms affected by heavy rains to receive insurance payouts quickly.

To this end, the Ministry established a plan in advance to deploy damage assessment personnel in preparation for heavy rains and assigned additional personnel to areas that suffered significant damage.

In particular, through proactive damage assessment measures, the Ministry is working to conduct damage investigations within three days of receiving a report. As of July 22, investigations have been completed for 99% of reported cases involving livestock and agricultural machinery. Overall, out of a total of 21,877 heavy rain damage reports, investigations have been completed for 12,514 cases.

Based on the prompt results of these damage assessments, the Ministry plans to begin insurance payouts for farms affected by heavy rains starting around July 25, immediately after investigations are completed. In addition, for farms that apply for advance insurance payouts, up to 50% of the estimated insurance payout will be provided even before the final amount is determined.

Minister Song Miryung of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs stated, "We will make every effort to enable farmers affected by this heavy rain to return to the field as soon as possible."
