Sharing Achievements of the Busan-style Planting Model Guidelines
Full-scale Industry-Academia Cooperation to Enhance Urban Resilience
Busan Urban Corporation (BMC, President Shin Changho) announced on July 23, 2025, that it held an industry-academia cooperation exchange meeting with the Department of Landscape Architecture at Kyungpook National University to jointly realize a landscape innovation model in response to the climate crisis era.
Approximately 20 participants attended the exchange meeting, including working-level staff from BMC's Landscape Business Division, Professor Eom Jeonghee of Kyungpook National University, as well as graduate and undergraduate students. They discussed how to effectively link field-oriented landscape projects with academic research achievements.
BMC presented the results of its ongoing initiatives, including the development of the climate crisis-adaptive 'Busan-style Planting Model,' plans to apply this model to major projects such as the Centum 2 District, the BMC Smart Landscape Strategy, and examples of coastal ecological restoration based on blue carbon, thereby suggesting the direction for public landscaping.
Kyungpook National University shared the latest research trends in urban climate-based landscape planning and creative landscape ideas from students, exploring possibilities for connecting theory and practice.
During the exchange, the two organizations shared the outcomes of their jointly conducted research project, 'Guidelines for the Busan-style Planting Model for Climate Crisis Adaptation,' and focused on discussing concrete implementation plans to apply these results to actual landscape projects. In-depth discussions were also held on the scientific outlook presented in the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report and on ecological restoration strategies utilizing blue carbon.
A representative from Busan Urban Corporation stated, "In the era of the climate crisis, landscaping should be redefined as a core infrastructure that enhances urban resilience, rather than simply serving an aesthetic function," and emphasized, "We will continue to strengthen cooperation with Kyungpook National University to enhance the effectiveness of landscape technology and apply it throughout Busan to improve climate adaptability."
Based on this collaboration, the two institutions plan to gradually expand industry-academia cooperation projects, including the identification of joint research topics, operation of field training and joint academic programs, and the establishment of climate adaptation testbeds at major project sites.
