Joo Jinwoo Announces Bid for People Power Party Leader: "Transforming into a Young and Strong Conservative"

Rep. Joo Jinwoo of the People Power Party has announced his intention to run for party leader in the upcoming national convention scheduled for next month.

On July 23, Rep. Joo stated on his social networking service (SNS) Facebook, "I will reorganize the party's ranks and transform it into a young and strong conservative party," adding, "I am running for party leader in this national convention."


Rep. Joo said, "Many say there is no answer for the People Power Party. However, we must find the answer with courage and competence," emphasizing, "This is not a choice. It is an order from the people and party members."


He continued, "Our party must become strong again. We must break the vicious cycle of pervasive conflict and lethargy within the party," stressing, "We will be reborn as a party that empowers the people."


Rep. Joo added, "I will rise again together with our beloved party members," and said, "Even during the election period, I will not stop keeping the ruling party in check and protecting our party."


Rep. Joo plans to announce his vision as a candidate for party leader at the National Assembly Communication Office at 11 a.m. on July 24.


So far, the candidates who have declared their intention to run for party leader include former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moonsoo, Reps. Cho Kyungtae, Ahn Cheolsoo, and Jang Donghyuk, former Presidential Office Future Strategy Planning Director Jang Sungmin, and former lawmaker Yang Hyangja.
