Jeonnam Province announced that the "Heavy Rain Victim Integrated Support Center" will be fully operational to ensure the swift recovery from the damage caused by the heavy rainfall that lasted from July 16 to July 20, and to help affected residents return to their daily lives as quickly as possible.
The pan-government Integrated Support Center is located on the first floor of Gwangju City Hall and will remain in operation until the recovery is complete. Central government ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Education, the National Tax Service, financial institutions, as well as local governments and related organizations, are participating to provide one-stop processing of civil complaints related to the damage.
Residents affected by the disaster can receive comprehensive services for actual recovery through the Integrated Support Center, including: ▲relief for displaced residents ▲medical and psychological support ▲volunteer coordination ▲protection for families in crisis ▲resolution of disruptions in telecommunications, electricity, and gas supply ▲consultation on restoration fund loans and loan deferments ▲insurance claim procedures.
Consultations are available by phone or by visiting the center, and support will be provided after confirmation by the responsible staff.
In addition, Jeonnam Province is currently requesting central government ministries to promptly designate the affected areas as special disaster zones. If designated as special disaster zones, various additional administrative and financial supports will be provided, including: ▲applications for disaster relief funds ▲reductions in water and sewage fees ▲tax payment deferments ▲postponement of military enlistment dates.
Kim Yungrok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, emphasized, "We will mobilize all administrative resources to ensure rapid recovery and damage assessment in the cities and counties affected by this heavy rain, so that residents can return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
As of 8 a.m. on July 22, the provisional estimate of the damage in Jeonnam Province caused by this heavy rainfall stands at 11.6 billion KRW for private facilities and 33.9 billion KRW for public facilities, totaling 45.5 billion KRW.
