The signing ceremony was attended by Lee Donghwan, mayor of Goyang, and representatives from Coupang Play, including CEO Kim Sunghan.
Through this agreement, the two organizations have agreed to cooperate on several fronts: attracting performances by world-renowned artists and international sports events to Goyang; producing global K-content and developing intellectual property; collaborating and providing administrative support for hosting performances and sports events; and establishing strategic partnerships to expand the content industry.
Coupang Play is a comprehensive entertainment service that not only broadcasts global sports leagues such as the Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, and Ligue 1, but also produces original K-content and hosts performances by top domestic and international artists. By joining forces with Goyang's performance and sports infrastructure, Coupang Play plans to actively drive the expansion of the global content ecosystem.
Lee Donghwan, mayor of Goyang Special City, stated, "This agreement serves as a representative realization model of G-Nomics and Festanomics, which Goyang is currently pursuing, and it marks an important turning point in our key pledge of creating a global hub city for Hallyu content and performances under the 8th popularly elected administration." He added, "Our partnership with Coupang Play, a leading homegrown OTT company, will help Goyang emerge as a global content hub city where culture, arts, and sports come together."
The city plans to use this agreement as an opportunity to continuously discover content with global competitiveness in collaboration with Coupang Play, thereby enhancing cultural welfare for its citizens and revitalizing the local economy.
