Public Officials Federation Urges Prime Minister Kim Minseok to Guarantee Basic Political Rights and Adjust Remuneration for Public Officials

Federation of Korean Trade Unions Urges
"Retirement Age Should Be Extended to 65 Within This Year"

The Public Officials Federation attended a meeting with Prime Minister Kim Minseok, who visited the Federation of Korean Trade Unions on July 22, to present key policy issues related to public officials and urged improvements to relevant systems.

During the meeting, the Public Officials Federation explained the current status and problems regarding major issues such as the guarantee of basic political rights for public officials, the adjustment of public officials' remuneration to reflect reality, the extension of the retirement age to 65, and the resolution of income gaps. The federation called for a responsible response from the government.

Kim Dongmyeong, President of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions, stated in his opening remarks, "The government must strive to improve the rights and interests of all workers, including public officials, through regular communication with the labor community. In particular, the issue of extending the retirement age to 65 should be actively pursued within this year." He also urged the guarantee of basic political rights for public officials as one of the federation's core demands.

Kim Hyunjin, President of the Public Officials Federation, appealed, "As the public faces significant hardships due to recent record-breaking heavy rains, it is urgent to fundamentally improve working conditions and adjust remuneration for public officials, especially lower-ranking and junior officials who are devoted at the front lines during disasters and crises, so that they can take pride in their work."

In response, Prime Minister Kim Minseok stated, "The issues presented today are included in the national policy agenda and pledges of the Lee Jaemyung administration. We will review them closely and make every effort to actively pursue them."

Kwon Changjun, Vice Minister of Employment and Labor, who attended the meeting, promised, "As these are presidential pledges, we will ensure prompt implementation through continuous dialogue and communication."

The Public Officials Federation announced that it will continue policy consultations with the National Assembly and the government to realize its core demands, including the guarantee of basic political rights for public officials, extension of the retirement age, and improvements to remuneration and working conditions.
