LG fully adopts FuriosaAI's "Renegade"
Performance per watt improved by 2.25 times
ChatEXAONE to be deployed across LG affiliates
FuriosaAI, an artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor company, has fully integrated its inference accelerator "Renegade (RNGD)" into LG's large language model (LLM) "EXAONE." According to FuriosaAI on July 22, the two companies have completed a proof-of-concept applying Renegade to the EXAONE 3.5 model and plan to soon launch an enterprise AI solution for EXAONE based on Renegade.
After approximately eight months of validation, the companies demonstrated that Renegade meets LG's high-performance requirements and delivers 2.25 times higher performance per watt compared to existing graphics processing units (GPUs).
In particular, Renegade was highly rated for its effectiveness in reducing total cost of ownership (TCO) for infrastructure, addressing the excessive power consumption and infrastructure costs that have been cited as limitations of GPUs. After comparing and analyzing various GPUs and neural processing units (NPUs), LG reportedly selected Renegade as the optimal alternative.
Jeon Gijeong, Product Unit Leader at LG AI Research Institute, said, "Renegade delivers outstanding absolute performance, rapid model support, and exceptional cost efficiency."
FuriosaAI aims to use EXAONE as a springboard to expand its industry-specific AI inference references targeting Fortune Global 500 companies. The company is also preparing to support the upcoming EXAONE 4.0 model.
Baek Junho, CEO of FuriosaAI, stated, "EXAONE is emerging as Korea's representative national foundation model," and added, "Through continued collaboration, we aim to contribute to building high-performance national AI infrastructure."
Going forward, Renegade will be utilized in a range of internal AI services across LG affiliates, including electronics, chemicals, and telecommunications, as well as in the customer response system for LG's enterprise AI service "ChatEXAONE."
