Gift of Korea's First Reproduction Radio
LG Electronics Expresses Appreciation for Collaboration with Qualcomm
Qualcomm CEO Amon Shares Photo on Social Media
Cho Joo-wan, CEO of LG Electronics, presented Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, with a reproduction of Korea's first radio, the 'A-501', as a token of appreciation for the cooperation between the two companies.
According to industry sources on July 22, CEO Amon posted a photo on LinkedIn, the social media service, showing himself holding LG Electronics' A-501 radio.
He stated, "I received a meaningful gift from CEO Cho Joo-wan to commemorate Qualcomm's 40th anniversary," and explained, "I thank CEO Cho, and the A-501 symbolizes our joint commitment to shaping the future of technology together."
CEO Cho responded in the comments, saying, "I prepared this special gift not only to celebrate Qualcomm's 40th anniversary, but also to honor a new beginning for both companies." He added, "The A-501 reminds us where LG Electronics' vision, determination, and pioneering spirit began. I believe this mindset will drive progress for both LG Electronics and Qualcomm. Let's break boundaries and move forward together."
In January, LG Electronics and Qualcomm jointly introduced the 'xDC Platform' at CES 2025, the world's largest home appliance and IT exhibition. This platform allows integrated control of in-vehicle infotainment systems (IVI) and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) with a single chip.
Last July, the two CEOs met at the LG Twin Towers in Yeouido, Seoul, where they shared a blueprint for AI cooperation between the two companies. LG Electronics has maintained a collaborative relationship with Qualcomm since its former mobile business (MC Business Division) days.
LG Electronics has presented heritage gifts reflecting its philosophy, such as the A-501 reproduction radio, to major partners. In March, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft (MS), posted a photo on LinkedIn showing himself receiving the A-501. After meeting with CEO Nadella, CEO Cho announced that "LG Electronics will supply ultra-large HVAC chillers to data centers built by MS."
The A-501 radio, originally manufactured in 1959 by Goldstar, the predecessor of LG Electronics, was the first vacuum tube radio made in Korea and is now designated as a registered cultural property.
