A Unique Festival Colors Ulleungdo's Summer from July 17 to 19
Becoming a Signature Event Blending Flavor, Warmth, and Culture
From July 17 to 19, "Ululala Badapocha SEASON2 - Ulleungdo Twist," held around Jeodong Port, came to a successful close, offering tourists and local residents unforgettable summer nights.
This festival was co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, North Gyeongsang Province, and Ulleung County, and was organized for the second time as part of the K-Tourism Island Development Project, following last year’s event.
This event, which blended Ulleungdo’s marine resources with the romance of summer nights, has been praised for further raising the island’s potential as a leading summer destination.
In particular, during the festival, seafood dishes freshly prepared with ingredients from the Ulleungdo sea received an enthusiastic response, drawing large crowds each day. People gathered around outdoor tables, mingling naturally with strangers, creating a scene reminiscent of a village festival where everyone communicated freely.
Experience programs and food booths prepared directly by Ulleungdo residents went beyond simple consumption, serving as a platform to share the island’s unique culture and sentiment. This is expected to become a successful model of "local experiential content," a new trend in tourism that focuses on experiencing regional culture.
One tourist commented, "I was impressed by the sense of relaxation, fresh food, and warm interactions with residents, which are hard to find in the city," adding, "It was a meaningful time, not just for sightseeing, but for directly experiencing the local culture."
"Ululala Badapocha" is considered one of the most successful cases of the K-Tourism Island Development Project. This project is a mid- to long-term initiative that selects five islands nationwide and invests about 10 billion KRW over four years to develop them into specialized tourist destinations combining pristine nature and K-culture. The Season 2 festival aligned with these policy goals, showcasing the potential for Ulleungdo’s unique character and charm to grow as a signature summer tourism festival.
Ulleung County is planning to diversify the program and expand resident participation to firmly establish "Ululala Badapocha" as the region’s representative summer brand festival.
In addition, the county aims to continuously discover and develop Ulleungdo’s pristine resources and local culture into content, presenting a new paradigm for island tourism.
