Osan City Expands Eligible Business Categories for Knowledge Industry Centers to Ease Vacancies

On July 22, the Osan city government announced that it will add seven new business categories eligible to move into knowledge industry centers that are either under construction or already built outside of industrial complexes. A city official explained, "We have prepared this measure to reduce the increasing number of vacancies in knowledge industry centers caused by insufficient demand in recent years, and to strengthen the foundation for attracting companies."

Currently, the types of businesses allowed in knowledge industry centers are strictly limited to manufacturing, knowledge-based industries, and information and communications industries. However, for knowledge industry centers built outside industrial complexes, local government heads are permitted to designate additional eligible business categories.

With this expansion, seven new business categories will now be allowed to move in: general and specialized construction, electrical construction, information and communications construction, fire protection facilities construction, video and audio recording production and distribution, OEM manufacturing, and smart farm vertical farming.

The city expects this measure to create a synergistic effect for large-scale urban development projects currently underway, such as Unamteul AI City and Segyo 3 District.

A city official stated, "By expanding the range of eligible businesses, we will resolve vacancies in knowledge industry centers, secure diversity in the industrial ecosystem, and strengthen the foundation for attracting companies."
